Invent Animate Unleash Storm-Soaked New Single “Fall Like Rain” Ahead of The Lonely God North American Tour

Atmospheric metalcore architects Invent Animate are back, and they’ve brought the storm clouds with them. Today, the Texas-based band drop “Fall Like Rain,” a new single and official visualizer released via UNFD — their first slice of original music since 2023’s critically adored full-length, Heavener.

True to form, “Fall Like Rain” trades easy hooks for something rawer and far more honest. Vocalist Marcus Vik delivers a vocal performance that feels less like a song and more like a confession scrawled at 3 a.m., layered over the kind of cinematic, weighty riff work that has made Invent Animate one of the most quietly influential bands in modern heavy music.

Vik opened up about the deeply personal inspiration behind the track, explaining that “Fall Like Rain” is about his lifelong battle with insomnia and anxiety — a battle that intensified after he quit drinking. “I was forced to confront my restless mind without a way to escape or quiet my thoughts,” he shared. “The line ‘I am a swarming blood red cloud’ is me admitting that I am my own insomnia; it’s the storm of my own thoughts that comes nightly to torment me.”

That tension is exactly what makes the song hit so hard. The vocals are desperate by design, mirroring the dread of staring at the ceiling at night, while the central chant — “I wasn’t born to be afraid” — lands like a defiant boot planted in the middle of the panic. As Vik puts it, the “whispers that fall like rain” are the quiet thoughts that build to a downpour, and the song is about choosing, every single night, to believe there is calm waiting on the other side of the storm.
