HYPER GAL Unveil “Mere Wisp” Video as Osaka Duo Launch European Tour April 25th
Osaka’s restless minimalist duo HYPER GAL are not slowing down. With their fourth album “Our Hyper” freshly out on SKiN GRAFT Records, vocalist Koharu Ishida and drummer Kurumi Kadoya have unveiled a music video for “Mere Wisp,” the closing track on the record, just days ahead of a 12-date European tour that kicks off April 25th at the Out of the Crowd Festival in Luxembourg City.
Directed by Ishida herself, the “Mere Wisp” video leans into the same uncanny visual language that defines “Our Hyper,” featuring the striking masks created by contemporary artist Akina Tokiyoshi. Those masks, held in the band’s own hands across the album artwork, are a quiet middle finger to the performative dualities of social media — a commitment to authenticity that runs through every corner of this record. The track itself was recorded by Ippei Suda at LM Studio and mixed and mastered by Taku Unami.

Since 2019, HYPER GAL have been in persistent, perpetual motion, and “Our Hyper” pushes their sound into a deeper, harder core. The drums have grown more acrobatic and unorthodox, the low-end has thickened, and Ishida’s vocals shift from mesmerizing repetition into genuinely melodic, pop-tinged territory — all while nodding toward Japan’s harsh noise lineage. Early press has been enthusiastic. Post-Trash called it “cathartic and hypnotic,” Lambgoat declared it “arguably the most interesting album I have had the pleasure of hearing in 2026,” and The Wire described “a queasy kind of physicality to the songs, like being shoved around and jolted on the tracks of a cheap rollercoaster.”
The European tour winds through Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark, including stops at Sonic Lyon, Bongo Joe in Geneva, Magasin 4 in Brussels, Hafenklang in Hamburg, and Copenhagen’s Colossal Weekend Festival, before wrapping up May 9th at Kastanienkeller in Berlin — the same city where HYPER GAL made their European live debut back in October 2024.
