Thunder’s Legendary 1998 Live Album Gets a Massive Remaster — Now on Vinyl and Digital for the First Time
If you’ve ever needed proof that Thunder are one of the most criminally underrated rock bands to come out of Britain, their 1998 live album is Exhibit A. And now, thanks to a pristine remaster via earMUSIC, LIVE is available on vinyl and digital platforms for the very first time.
Originally recorded during a blistering 1997 run when the band was firing on all cylinders, LIVE captures Thunder at their rawest and most electrifying. Danny Bowes commands the stage with a vocal delivery that could strip paint off the walls, while Luke Morley’s guitar work cuts through with the kind of bluesy precision that made this band a cult favorite across the UK and beyond. It’s 31 tracks of big riffs, bigger choruses, and the kind of energy that simply doesn’t translate on a studio record.
The 2025 remaster — yes, that’s right, this has been given the full treatment — adds punch and breathing room without sanitizing the rough edges that made the original so beloved. It’s louder, clearer, and still sounds like five guys absolutely tearing a room apart.
The release comes in a few flavors: a Deluxe Limited 4LP Gatefold Vinyl, a Limited 3CD Digipak with bonus material, and a standard digital release. The bonus tracks alone are worth the price of admission, featuring acoustic takes, rare studio cuts like “Too Bad” and “The Only One,” and deep pulls such as “Something About You (The Nomis Session)” and “This Forgotten Town (Acoustic)” that spotlight a side of Thunder most casual listeners never get to hear.
Standout moments? “Love Walked In” remains an anthem for the ages — and a freshly dropped performance video gives you a front-row seat to witness it. “Backstreet Symphony” still hits like a freight train, and “Dirty Love” is as swaggering and unapologetic as ever. Check out the “Love Walked In” live performance below:
Thunder have been at this since the late ’80s, and LIVE is a reminder that their reputation wasn’t built on hype — it was built on nights like the ones captured on this record. The original lineup of Bowes, Morley, Ben Matthews on guitar and keyboards, Chris Childs on bass, and Gary “Harry” James on drums sounds like a unit that could level a building and then play the encore in the rubble.
Whether you’re a day-one fan who wore out the original CD or you’re just now discovering what all the fuss is about, this remaster is as good a place to start as any. Thirty-one tracks. No filler. All thunder.
