ReachNYC Drop Emotionally Charged Video for “I Should Have Known” Featuring P.O.D.
ReachNYC are back with a gut punch. The Long Island-bred rockers have just dropped the video for their new single “I Should Have Known,” and this time they brought some serious friends along — Sonny Sandoval and Marcos Curiel of P.O.D. are in the building.

This isn’t your average feature-for-the-sake-of-a-feature situation. The bond between ReachNYC and P.O.D. is deep, built on years of genuine brotherhood, and you can hear it in every second of this track. Vocalist Rene Mata delivers a vocal performance soaked in real grief and hard-won resilience, while Sandoval’s signature cadence lifts the song skyward before erupting into raw screams on the bridge — “You’re never alone” — the kind of line that hits different when you know the story behind it.
Musically, the single is a clinic. Marcos Curiel’s guitar work radiates hope through a colorful melodic line, while AJ Chiarella’s bombastic chords slash through the mix like razors. Dante Renzi and Tim Robbins lock down a rhythm section that feels like a freight train with a heartbeat. The whole thing was produced by Bob Marlette — the man behind records for Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Shinedown, Rob Zombie, and Seether — alongside Chris Marlette. In other words, it sounds absolutely massive.
For those unfamiliar with ReachNYC’s story, buckle up. Originally known as Reach 454, the band came up in the late ’90s New York scene, sharing stages at legendary venues like CBGB’s with the likes of Papa Roach and System of a Down, and tearing through Vans Warped Tour. Atlantic Records came calling, and they dropped a self-titled debut in 2003. Then life happened, and the band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2004.
The road back was paved with both tragedy and love. Chester Bennington, a close friend of Rene’s, always pushed him to keep playing. In fact, the last time the two were together in New York, Chester floated the idea of an arena tour featuring Linkin Park, Korn, Deftones, System of a Down, Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit — with Reach opening. When Chester passed in July 2017, Rene spiraled into a dark place. It was Dante and Marcos Curiel who eventually pulled him back, convincing him to reunite the band for a P.O.D. show in NYC in 2019 — their first gig in 15 years.
That show reignited everything. The 2020 EP Back from the Dead — featuring Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach — marked their official return, and the band hasn’t slowed down since, hitting stages at Welcome to Rockville and sharing bills with Quicksand at the Bowery Ballroom.
Now, “I Should Have Known” is just the beginning of the next chapter. ReachNYC are gearing up for their sophomore album, produced by Cass Dillon, mixed by Josh Wilbur, and mastered by Howie Weinberg. The guest list reads like a fever dream: Jacoby Shaddix, Kiiara, Sonny and Marcos from P.O.D., Joey Santiago from the Pixies, and Sendog of Cypress Hill and Powerflo.
Keep your eyes and ears locked in. ReachNYC have been through the fire, and they came back swinging.
