idle threat Tap Silent Planet’s Garrett Russell for Gutting New Single “wither without”

Nashville’s idle threat have never been a band content to let the darkness win. But they’re also not a band that pretends the darkness isn’t there. That tension — between grief and grace, between falling apart and holding on — is exactly what makes their new single “wither without” hit so hard.

Out today via Tooth & Nail, “wither without” features a guest appearance from Silent Planet vocalist Garrett Russell, and the pairing is as devastating as you’d expect. Russell’s presence adds an extra layer of emotional gravity to a track that already deals in heavy subject matter.

“‘wither without’ is about watching someone you love slowly decay before your eyes, and the continuous fight that it takes to stay by their side when everything in you wants to look away,” the band explains. “It’s about carrying on their memory when they’ve lost their own.”

If that doesn’t knock the wind out of you, check your pulse.

The single arrives alongside a visualizer that matches the song’s aching weight. Watch it below:

“wither without” is the latest taste of idle threat’s forthcoming sophomore full-length, you’ll forget the sun, due out May 8 via Tooth & Nail. The album was recorded in Nashville with Haste the Day frontman Stephen Keech behind the board as producer — and Keech also lent his vocals to the previously released single “in tandem,” a moody and angular cut that signaled the band was leveling up in a serious way.

The five-piece — Ernie Fabian (guitar, vocals), Zeke McKinney (bass, vocals), Justin Jones (drums), Nathan Moe (guitar), and Dylan Winstead (guitar) — have been quietly building a loyal following since their 2016 Grown Tired EP and their 2021 record blurred visions. Along the way, they’ve shared stages with Norma Jean, Emery, Aaron Gillespie, and Watashi Wa, and have turned heads at Furnace Fest twice.

The album title itself carries a duality worth sitting with. “On one hand, the days can be so dark that you forget the sun exists,” Fabian reveals. “On the other hand, when we step into the presence of God — whose glory is so radiant and bright — the sun will pale in comparison.”

you’ll forget the sun features ten tracks, including collaborations with Keech, Russell, Aaron Stone of My Epic, and Christian Nielsen of Meadows. It’s shaping up to be one of the more compelling rock records of the spring.

Fans in Nashville can catch idle threat supporting Haste the Day at Eastside Bowl on May 3. Pre-order you’ll forget the sun now at toothandnail.ffm.to/yfts.
