10 Years Later: October 2015

Every month, we’re going to look back at the Milwaukee releases that are celebrating a milestone anniversary. We dug into our archives, and here are the 10-year old releases that are still available for streaming today:

Dead Horses – “Ain’t Got Time”

What we said in 2015: “Milwaukee folk trio Dead Horses recently released the video for their single “Ain’t Got Time”. The song is bouncy, with a swinging sound that picks up as the tempo changes. As of right now, Dead Horses plan to record their upcoming album in Nashville, and this song definitely carries a country twang to it. However, there are also some wonderfully produced visuals to go with the jazzy vocal-driven song, and it’s definitely worth your checking out.”

Wave Chapelle – “Lately”

What we said in 2015: “One of the Milwaukee names breaking out on the national scene, Wave Chapelle, is back with a new track, “Lately”. Produced by Greedy Money, “Lately” is a smooth, laid back track that, somehow, you can still bounce along to. Heavily influenced by Yo Gotti, along with the rest of his CMG label, Wave shows some mature, calm tones on the beginning of this track.”

Von Alexander Featuring Pizzle – “Waves”

What we said in 2015: “The artist once known as Vonny Del Fresco is back, rebranded as Von Alexander, and it appears that he is refocused on greatness, exemplified in recent single “Waves”. Produced by DMND, Von’s style seems to have switched up ever so slightly, with a more ambitious flow than previous releases. There is, however, still the same attention to detail, and the result is a top-notch quality track.”

Rina – “Temptation”

What we said in 2015: “With only one song on SoundCloud, Milwaukee R&B artist Rina is making a buzz for herself. In two weeks, “Temptation” has hit over 13,000 plays, and reached all the right people in the local scene, all for good reason. Rina’s vocals are powerful, yet sultry, and accompanied by a flamenco-esque glistening guitar.”

The Rashita Joneses – “White Wave”

What we said in 2015: “Milwaukee garage rockers The Rashita Joneses have come roaring onto the local music scene, figuratively and quite literally, with their new single “White Wave”. Since releasing a split cassette with Filter Free Rodeo, the group has been hard at work on their EP, “Bang Bang! Lasagna”. Set to come out on Tasty Tapes this November. If you’re ready to fully embrace some killer garage rock, The Rashita Joneses are the kind of band you can fall in love with. Hell, their press release introduces them as “The Rashita Joneses (so far no comment from Rashida or her lawyers)”, and on that merit alone, you have to feel like you’re experiencing something with them.”

WebsterX Featuring Allan Kingdom – “Kinfolk”

What we said in 2015: “Fresh off of a pair of videos that caught fire, WebsterX is back with a new track, “Kinfolk”, featuring Allan Kingdom. With a beat by Boathouse that has elements of EDM and hip hop blended together, Web delivers his now-signature out of the box flow. Kingdom matches that style and raises it with his own flow, with bars you’ll remember for a while. It would be interesting to see these two collaborate more, as the two styles compliment each other well.”

BKnitts – “Solos”

BKnitts · SoloSWhat we said in 2015: “BKnitts has followed up his album “Waves” in a major way with “Solos”. The project, as described by BKnitts, is much more than just an album. The album is a collaboration with producer Paper Wolf, and the duo create a solid soundscape to vibe along to. “This is a piece of me that I am hurling (with care) into the universe, forever” reads his website, which goes into greater detail about what this project means to him. It’s very cool to see that amount of care put into a project, which by the way, sounds great, too.”
