Milwaukee’s own Ladybird brought a fresh wave of country-rock to the Miller Lite Oasis Stage at Summerfest yesterday, July 5th. Despite being first-timers at the “Big Gig,” the band displayed a level of confidence and stage presence that belied their rookie status.

From the opening notes, Ladybird’s energy was infectious. Lead singer Pete McDermott captivated the crowd with his smooth vocals and engaging stage persona, while the rest of the band provided a tight and dynamic musical foundation. Fresh from their debut album “Amy Come on Home” the band showcased hits like “Short King Shuffle” and “Aubrey’s Graden” showcasing their ability to blend classic country influences with a modern edge, creating a sound that felt both familiar and exciting.

The early afternoon 1 pm was full of fans that came strictly to see SummerFest to see the rockers take the stage. From Baltimore to San Diego, Ladybird’s fan bench runs deep, a fact that Pete made sure to call out as he pointed to his friends from up on stage. This didn’t take away anything from the crowd as they cheered on the long-distance fans, welcoming them into the arms of their appreciation for the band.

Overall, Ladybird’s Summerfest performance was a delightful surprise. They prove themselves time and time again that they are a standout Milwaukee band to watch, with a sound that is sure to appeal to fans of both classic and contemporary country music. If you get the chance, be sure to check out Ladybird. They’re a band on the rise, and their Summerfest performance was a clear indication of their potential.
