RECAP: Big Beat MKE 2019 – Quarterfinals Night One

With the opening round behind us, the 2019 Big Beat MKE competition is about to speed up drastically, and that was evident on night one of the Quarterfinals this week. In addition to performances from Rich P. and an impromptu fill-in performance from Rockz, we saw strong battles, as Fearjoy faced Bennie D, and Four Giants took on James Ashen.
The opening contest gave us a good indicator of what to expect for the night, as Fearjoy went toe-to-toe with Bennie D. Fearjoy tapped out his beats on the MPC, which went over well with the crowd. Bennie D matched that intensity without equipment, though, bringing some excellently mastered tracks that were crystal clear from a sonic standpoint. It was a tough call for the judges, but ultimately Fearjoy is moving on to the semifinals on June 13th.

Battle number two between Four Giants and James Ashen saw a clash of styles, as Four Giants mixed elements of EDM and hip hop, and Ashen went with a strong trap approach. On sound quality alone the pair matched each other well, and before the third round was over the judges were already calling for overtime. The final tally came to just one vote between them, but James Ashen walked away with a crucial victory, punching his ticket to the semis.

Believe it or not, there’s just three weeks left for Big Beat MKE, and the competition is only getting tougher and tougher. Be sure to join us next week for two more battles, plus performances from Camb and AWillThaGreat. Check out your updated bracket below:
