VIDEO: U2 – “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)”

Let’s make one thing very clear; I am a big Ramones fan. That being said, I generally look at anything in recent years mentioning The Ramones or posthumously mentioning their members critically. So when U2 put out “The Miracle (of Joey Ramone)” and I saw Joey Ramone’s face projected on Bono in an Apple ad, eyebrows were raised.

However, I give U2 a pass. Bono appeared on “We’re A Happy Family”, the Ramones tribute album, and he didn’t butcher it, so he gets a pass. I actually liked hearing this song in the iPhone ad, so maybe I belong on an island somewhere, but let’s push past that. While it sounds nothing like The Ramones, “The Miracle (Of Joey Ramone)” is a description of that moment when you hear something that you want to take with you forever, and for Bono, it was the spirit of The Ramones. Yes, it’s overproduced. But it’s good. U2 does a somewhat fitting job of honoring the band in the video, as well. I’ll ignore the fact that the first related video suggested for me was a teenage girl covering the song on an acoustic guitar in her bedroom. Watch below and judge for yourself:
