This week’s Milwaukee Artist of the Week is Sulek, a band with a sound unlike many of the other bands that we’ve featured in the past, and we like that. The band, composed of Chris Winberg, Patrick Joseph Hoctor and Ruthie Hoctor, are able to mix classical music elements with the grit of lo-fi guitars to create something simply unique. Their work is very creative, and it’s a sound that they’ve been able to perfect over the last eight years. In that time, they’ve released four albums, the most recent being 2012’s “Unbound At Last”. The album, recorded in a chapel, is eleven tracks of well crafted indie music, mixing an eclectic group of instruments throughout. It’s amazing that the band is comprised of completely self taught musicians, but it is also a testament to how talented each member is. If you’re a fan of unique indie records, Sulek should be a local go-to.
