Part performer, part sonic experiment conductor, Mike Neumeyer is back with a new EP of material, “Handpan One.” As you might expect, the project features four tracks and prominent use of the handpan, which Neumeyer explains that he received as a gift. Invoking use of his trademark marimba sound as well, we get periodic vocals, and livelier compositions on this collection of recordings. It feels like with every solo release, we get an expansion of Neumeyer’s horizons, and all of his work can shift a listener’s mood with the atmosphere that he creates.
