Jay Hvrt has a new project out, and it consists of four tracks of personal, introspective hip hop. “What Happened To… Robot Jones?” is an EP that combines upbeat production with lyrical content that goes deeper into the mindset of the artist. Appearances from Domo Bankz and Uptown Slim change the flows up, and Hvrt manages to look at different topics while still keeping the overarching theme alive from track to track. Whether slowing things down on “Top Floor” or talking about the streets with plenty of basketball metaphors on “Shaq,” Jay Hvrt manages to stay authentic in his verses, which can be increasingly tempting to deviate from in hip hop.
