VIDEO: Mr. Nice Guy with Vincent Van Great

One of our contributors, Ben Slowey, is more than on top of the local music scene. In addition to his work for Breaking And Entering, he also hosts the Mr. Nice Guy podcast, an interview-based show that reaches out to Milwaukeeans for conversations about what motivates them. Many of these shows fittingly involve the local music scene, and we’ll be sharing some of them here as well.

For this episode, Ben sat down with hip hop/R&B artist Vincent Van Great. His debut solo full-length album “Ungreatful” and collaboration tape with Dana Coppafeel “A Tape Called Fresh” are streaming everywhere. They had a brew and discussed Vince’s artist name, his band Ninja Sauce, his writing process, playing outside the city, and the new record coming out. You can check out more episodes of Mr. Nice Guy on YouTube, and check out this interview below:

VIDEO: Vincent Van Great “I’m The Man Pt. 2”

The joint project from Vincent Van Great and Dana Coppafeel, “A Tape Called Fresh” has been out for some time, but Vincent just put some new sauce onto the project, with the addition of backing band Ninja Sauce in the clip for “I’m The Man Pt. 2”. Van Great and the band keep things smooth in the new clip, with the energy and style that only live instrumentation can bring to a track like “I’m The Man”. The Gonzales Visuals-directed clip showcases Vincent serenading his muse with the track as well. As the weather warms up, we’re going to see more and more of Vincent Van Great and Dana Coppa, and you can get ready for that with the video for “I’m The Man Pt. 2” below:

AUDIO: Vincent Van Great & Dana Coppafeel – “A Tape Called Fresh”

After much anticipation, Uni-Fi Records labelmates Vincent Van Great and Dana Coppafeel have unleashed their newest project, “A Tape Called Fresh”. The end product of over two years in the studio together with producer Charley Cooks, the collection of songs are the top selections from numerous studio sessions. Featuring several recent singles, including “Phone Keeps Ringing”, “Enter Flex” and “Grimey”, the release is broken up into two sides according to the duo; “Rap Shit” and “Smooth Shit”. Both sides live up to their name, with Side A featuring a verse from Blizz McFly, as well as several very bar-heavy cuts. Side B smooths it out, including a rendition of Van Great’s “I’m The Man” featuring his live band, Ninja Sauce. It does very much remind you of the cassette tapes that you would wear out back in the day. Check out “A Tape Called Fresh” below:
