The submissions keep rolling in to us, and it’s amazing to see the amount of talent that is out there to be discovered. We’ve found five more acts that are more than worthy of your time, so be sure to give them all a listen. Here’s our Five to Watch for November.
Taylor Gayle (Plano, Texas)
The country-pop narrative of Plano’s Taylor Gayle is very reminiscent of a certain famous Taylor in her younger days, but that’s about all of the comparisons that we’ll make regarding her young career. Gayle is only 12 years old, but when you hear her sing, you would never assume that age in the slightest. With a bit of country, and a bit of pop, she has a very commercial sound that could easily turn her into a household name before she’s legally able to drive a car. The music industry has taken note, as well; her debut EP was created with the help of Margaret Becker, a Grammy-nominated producer with a string of successful singles to her name. Taylor Gayle has made the move to Nashville, and when you hear her, you’ll understand that she’s more than a kid with a dream. Check out her track, “Butterfly”, below.
Ralphy (Los Angeles, California)
Originally born in Australia, Ralphy combines elements of indie, electro, and house into her unique blend of pop music. She’s developed a local following in LA, particularly amongst the gay club scene, but her music has a crossover appeal to it. No stranger to sultry lyrics and tones, Ralphy creates music that is pure pop bliss. Her single, “Skin To Skin”, is a prime example; while you could hear it in a club, you could definitely also hear it on top 40 radio stations, and the world may soon be doing both. Pilla (Houston, Texas)
Hailing from a part of the country known for slowed down, chopped and screwed music, Houston’s Pilla is a little more uptempo than your average rapper. While his production combines elements of screw music, his flow could be comparable to Twista. Pilla first began rapping at age 12, and thanks to a military family, often relocated to new parts of the country, including Chicago at one point. Packing words into his bars effortlessly, Pilla is still able to do something that is a vital component to Houston hip hop; make it sound great in a car. Madi Anne Davis (McKinney, Texas)
Again, I never watch the reality show singing competitions, but the contestants always catch my ear as an artist deserving recognition in our Five To Watch. Madi Anne Davis competed on The Voice, finishing in the top six contestants, and when you hear her for the first time, you’ll understand exactly why. With a strong, yet sensitive voice, Davis is able to capture a certain vulnerability in her music, captivating a listener in the process. Stylistically, there are comparisons to Adele to be made, but with a twangier, Texas-infused style. Davis has two EPs under her belt, and is looking to capitalize on her national publicity. She definitely checks all of the boxes to be a standout performer, and it seems likely that we’ll be hearing a lot more from her on a grander scale soon. Radio Drive (St. Paul, Minnesota)
Radio Drive is the project of frontman Kevin Gullickson. You might’ve already heard their music before without knowing it, as they’ve received music placements on national TV in the past. In addition to that, the band has also charted internationally, though Minnesota is their home. It won’t be long, however, before their music begins getting more domestic attention. Recently, Radio Drive had the honor of working with acclaimed producer Stuart Epps, who has worked with George Harrison, Jimmy Page, and many more.
